About

Idol Mixtape is a curated collection centered on Japanese idol songs.

Most of the music featured here comes from Japanese female idol groups, with a focus on dance music and related genres. From major-label acts to underground idols, and everything in between.

This is not a ranking site.

It is not a review site, either.

Some songs are famous.
Some are not.

They are simply songs that felt worth putting on the shelf.

Start with the music.

Why “Idol Mixtape”?

There is no actual mixtape here.

The name comes from the feeling of sharing a small collection of songs that you want someone else to hear.

Not hundreds of songs.
Not a complete database.

Just songs worth passing along.

Why this site exists

Japanese idol music contains far more musical variety than many people expect.

Rock, R&B, House, Drum & Bass, Funk, City Pop influences, Shibuya-kei influences, and many things in between.

Outside Japan, idol music is often discussed through fandom, personalities, or live culture.

Those things are important too.

This site simply approaches idol music from a different angle.

Discover Japanese idol music through sound, not fandom.

About the curator

I am a music fan, not a music critic.

I enjoy digging through credits, producers, arrangers, and unexpected musical connections.

And I have a weakness for unison vocals.

That may be one of the reasons I enjoy idol music so much.

Sometimes I can explain exactly why I like a song.

Sometimes all I can say is:

“Just listen to this.”

That is enough.

A small goal

I hope this site helps more people discover Japanese idol music.

Not because it needs to become the next K-pop.

Just because there are many great songs worth hearing.

If something catches your ear, I’m glad you’re here.
